DONCASTER Rugby League Club may have left their former Tattersfield base in Bentley more than 15 years ago, but they once again have a presence on the site.

The Dons have erected a hoarding to promote home games at the Keepmoat Stadium on the edge of where the club’s main car park used to be.

Head coach Tony Miller joined the club’s big close season signing Paul Cooke, to see the final touches being applied to the double-sided hoarding on the eve of last weekend’s home game against Rochdale Hornets, which they won 48-26 to remain top of Championship One.

“It’s strange being back here at what was Tattersfield before it was knocked down after the club went bust in the mid-90s,” said Miller.

“I enjoyed my time at the club, especially the year we won promotion to the top flight for the first time in the Dons’ history.

“Although it came nowhere near the quality of the Keepmoat, the club put a lot of time and money into it whilst I was here and it wasn’t a bad little stadium at the end.

“The crowd were near to the action and when you got a good crowd in there was always a cracking atmosphere.”

He added: “Having played in Bentley for over 50 years the club’s main support base has traditionally been in this part of town and we’ve lost quite a few fans since we moved to the Keepmoat because it is not quite so convenient,

“But it’s not that far away and we are hoping by erecting this hoarding, on what is a very busy road, we’ll start to attract a few of them back.

“Everything is going well, We are top of the league and playing some very entertaining rugby in one of the best stadiums in the game; we just want to attract a few hundred more supporters.”
