No wonder they’re all smiles!
For Dearne Valley Bulldogs’ U13s lifted the rugby league Yorkshire Cup following a formidable final 50-20 winning performance against Dewsbury Celtic.
An incredible five tries from Said Jamal and Bradley Pavier’s four scores helped the Bulldogs on their way to cup glory in a game Dearne Valley never really looked like losing.
The Bulldogs found themselves 12-0 ahead in the opening minutes through Pavier and Jamal tries, complemented by Kieran Bell and James Chappell conversions.
A battling Dewsbury managed to reduce the deficit through George Fox’s unconverted try, however, Jamal hit back with his second score of the game for a 16-4 Bulldogs lead.
Again, Celtic responded - this time through a Connor Appleyard unconverted touch down by the posts for 16-8.
But a dominant Dearne Valley saw Pavier pounce for his second try of the game and Chappell added the extras.
Jamal notched his hat trick try to push the Bulldogs into a half time lead of 28-8 following Bell’s successful kick.
Dearne Valley were keen to wrap up the game as Jamal crashed over for his fourth try and Chappell converted for a 34-8 scoreline.
However, Celtic were in no mood to go down easily as Fox and Dylan Gordon clinched unconverted tries to make it 34-16.
The Bulldogs then had one hand on the cup when Pavier collected his hat trick score and Bell kicked the goods for 40-16.
And when Jamal’s fifth try in the corner came, Dearne Valley’s 44-16 lead looked beyond any possible comeback on the Featherstone Rovers turf.
To their credit, Dewsbury continued to battle and claimed a consolation try from Cameron Berry (44-20) before Pavier’s try was converted by Bell for a final score of 50-20 - sparking wild celebrations from the Dearne Valley contingent.
