REUBEN Reid's love affair with Rotherham United looks to have been a brief encounter, after he was placed on the transfer list by Mark Robins at his own request.
The striker netted 19 goals in an impressive debut season for the Millers – but he appears to have decided his future lies away from Don Valley.
League One MK Dons had a 100,000 bid turned down in the last few weeks and the interest from the higher divisions appears to have piqued Reid's interest.
But Robins has said the 20-year-old may still turn out in the red and white next season if prospective buyers do not meet his valuation for the player.
The situation is similar to the one Leeds United have found themselves in, with Jermaine Beckford who was also successfully granted a transfer request.
Robins said: "Reid may end up being here for the season – We'll see what happens.
"We'll certainly want the market value for a player who has scored 19 goals."
The player is developing a reputation as a volatile character and was sent back early from a loan spell with Rochdale while he was on Plymouth's books.
Reid was suspended for two weeks, following his return
to Home Park due to what then-boss Ian Holloway termed an 'internal matter.'
Holloway said at the time: "They did not want him there any more.
"It is internal, and I dealt with it. It is disappointing because he is representing me, my team and my club.
"I don't take too kindly to people not behaving properly and then making excuses.
"I have got to be careful. He will come and see me on Monday."
Earlier this season, boss Robins told the Times that Reid had not been working hard enough on a regular basis.
He said: "There's no doubt that Reuben's got ability and can trouble anyone on his day.
"The only question is does he work hard enough, often enough and the answer to that is no."
But Reid appeared to go through a change in attitude at the time and the goals soon followed.
"It's amazing what happens when you work hard," Robins commented.
"He's started to get his head down and perform but he's got to maintain the hard work.
"If things are not going your way you still have to maintain the work rate and that will turn things around for you."
Reid went on to net 10 goals in 10 games for the Millers throughout February and March.
Another striker Rotherham will be concerned about in the coming weeks is recent record-equal-ling signing Tom Pope, who has pleaded guilty to an affray charge, after an incident that took place in February this year in Staffordshire.
The 23-year-old will be sentenced on July 31 after admitting his involvement in a disturbance in the town of Hanley.
Details of the incident have not yet been aired in court, but affray relates to unlawful violence either being used or threatened which leave one or more persons fearing for their safety.
Two or more people have to be present for an affray charge to apply, and the maximum punishment for the offence is a three-year jail term.
