Athletics: Future stars claim top honours
Kelly Bramhald
JAVELIN thrower Kelly Bramhald and hurdler Aiden Davies picked up the top individual honours at Doncaster Athletic Club’s annual presentation evening, writes Steve Hossack.
Bramhald won the club’s Overall Outstanding Female Track & Field award.
She became the first club member to win a gold medal (senior girls) at the prestigious Aviva English Schools’ Championships at Gateshead in July and finished the year in third place in the national Under-20 rankings.
Davies, who competed in the intermediate 400m hurdles and also formed part of the South Yorkshire 4 x 400m relay team at Gateshead, was a double silver medallist at the English Schools’ Championships.
He later went on to compete for England in the 400m hurdles and Combined Events international and again finished in the medals.

He also won individual gold (400m hurdles) and team silver (4x 400m relay) in the Sainsbury School Games – the first event to be held at the London Olympic Games Stadium.
Beth Dobbin, the daughter of former Doncaster Rovers footballer Jim Dobbin, Lucy Chappell and Alice Howe, were runners-up to Bramhald.
Bertie Houghton, Brother Jack, and Joe McGrath were runners-up to Davies.
Bramhald, Dobbin (senior girls’ 200m), Jack Houghton (senior boys 400m hurdles) and Davies were all presented with club medals to commemorate their medal-winning performances at the English Schools’ Championships.
“The Championships is the most prestigious competition for all young athletes,” said club chairman Kevin Lincoln.
“To even be chosen to compete is a great accomplishment and something that not many club athletes manage. So to win a medal is credit indeed.”
