No respite for Conisbrough

PONTEFRACT AND DISTRICT CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION ONE CONISBROUGH remain deep in relegation trouble after falling to the might of title-chasing Sprotbrough and Scott Hopkinson at the Ivanhoe. Several decent scores helped Conisbrough post 165, but the lack of edge prevented them from making life difficult for the top flight's third-placed team.

Jonathan Phillips hit 37, Ben Scott 27, Paul Hemmingway 28no, Des Steele 21 and Steve Barnes 20 and Conisbrough made progress. Gavin Elsmore and Karl Buxton both took three wickets for Sprotbrough.

Hopkinson imposed his authority from the off and figured in a fifth-wicket partnership of 90 with Matthew Webb, as the reply zoomed up. He finished with a remarkable unbeaten 106 featuring 19 fours as Sprotbrough sealed victory with the first delivery of the 37th over, with 167-5. Paul Jackson took three wickets for Conisbrough.

Hooton Pagnell continued to move in the right direction with an eight-wicket win over Barnby Dun. A dour 61 by Phil Decent prevented Hooton from ripping through the Barnby order, while Mark Wilkinson and Steve Barnes also reached double figures with 18 and 12 respectively before their last wicket tumbled on 132.

Daniel Owen bowled 12.5 overs, seven of which were maidens to snare an excellent 4-34 while Steve Hardaker claimed 3-21 and Bob Wincer chipped in with 2-40. An unbeaten 61 from Ian Jackson enabled Hooton to respond with 135-2 while Adrian Coates hit 29 and Alwyn Dyke was unbeaten on 21.

Frickley Colliery's hopes of gatecrashing the title race look to be dead and buried after they lost by six wickets entertaining reigning champions Streethouse.

Colliery started with a decent platform established by Ashley Vickers who hit nine boundaries in his 59 while Tom Stanley struck 10 and Mark Walker 14. But Shane Payne's 43 was the only other decent contribution in the final total of 169.

Streethouse were struggling at 36-4 as Payne continued his individual showing with 3-30, but an unbroken stand by Martin Rhodes and Paul Hazeldene – who hit 58 and 70 – took them to 172-4 in the 40th over.

Wombwell Main's ticket for Division Two is ready to be stamped, as they lost by ten wickets to Ackworth after falling all out for 97. Ackworth reached 101 without loss thanks to 51 from Matthew Jordan and 42 from Roy Young.

Other results: Crofton 166-8 Old Sharlston 167-9; Fishlake 218-8 Featherstone Town 222-2.DIVISION TWO

UPPER Haugh held on to top spot in the second tier with a nail-biting three-run win over Whitley Bridge at Wentworth Road.

Glenn Mitchell anchored the Haugh total with a fine 40, ably supported by Ross Diver's 31 as they reached 147 all out – a total minimised by the solid bowling performance of J Peace, who took 5-44.

Haugh picked up the win as they managed to contain the visitors to 144-7, despite a fine 57 from G Draper. Michael Clarke took 3-45 while Ricky License claimed 2-30.

South Kirkby moved a point behind Haugh, with a 33-run win at rivals Rothwell.

Solid knocks of 62 and 31 from Nick Crooks and Nick Percival gave Kirkby a fine opening partnership, from which to build that James Scott, Jacob Peacock and Dale Woolsey improved with 19, 36 and 42 respectively up to 225-8.

Opener Anis Ur Rehman tried to get Rothwell to the right tempo with his 34 but Simon Booth's 51, Tony Gardner's 22 and an unbeaten 20 from Simon Danby were not good enough to put them near as they closed on 192. Woolsey took 4-55 while Steve Scott claimed 4-54 for Kirkby.

Other results: Allerton Bywater 225 Sandal 133; Darton 247-4 Thorne Colliery 180-9; Monk Bretton 213 Askern Welfare 214-9; Stainborough 245-7 Fairburn 148-9.

DIVISION THREE

FRICKLEY Colliery continue to flounder and could be set for the drop, after they fell off the pace further with a seven wicket defeat at Yorkshire Main.

Openers Scott Pinder and David Myers were the only ones in double figures, with paltry contributions of 17 and 16 from them as Colliery were dismissed for just 60. Frank Thompson snapped up 5-6 while Scott Sykes took a hat-trick and finished with 3-21.

An unbeaten 47 from Steve Hodgetts guided Main to 64-3 with Richard Caton, Craig Williamson and Matty Charlton sharing the wickets.

Conisbrough put further daylight between themselves and the drop zone as they saw off bottom club Ryhill and Havercroft by one wicket.

Ryhill started well, with John Lomas chipping in 13 followed by 45 from Paul Batley but they then suffered a hiccup before low order men Andy Bowers, Gary Carter and Adam Steeples pushed them up to 135 with totals of 14, 19 and 18.

Mark Neale snared 4-27, Scott Harris 3-7, Lee Roberts 2-31 and Daniel Ward 1-37. Tim Kelly opened with an unbeaten 21 in Conisbrough's reply while Jack Whittaker, Paul Luke, Daniel Ward and Scott Harris added useful totals, to seal victory in the 44th over on 138-9.

Ryhill continued to bite with Peter Lomas snapping a magnificent 8-34 while Mark Perrin claimed the other.

Former Kirkby man Iain Barton spearheaded the Hall reply with 79, while 35 from B Dunn-Birch and an unbeaten 53 from P Sykes saw them to 193-6 in the 44th over. Danny Bowering took 4-16 and Danks 1-5 for Kirkby.

HOOTON Pagnell suffered derby day disaster as a 103-run defeat to Sprotbrough left them facing relegation worry.

Tom Pepper's 33 was the main contribution to the Sprotbrough total of 179 as the father-and-son bowling team of David and Charlie Kaye stole the show for Hooton. The elder Kaye took 4-39 while the son claimed 3-60.

Only Gary Chopping reached double figures with 25 as Hooton suffered disaster to fall all out for 76. Richard Gore claimed 6-29 for Sprotbrough.

DIVISION SEVEN

HEMSWORTH MW's up and down campaign continued as they lost by five wickets at Brodsworth Main. Mick Cassenelli took 5-23 for Brodsworth who coasted to victory at 121-5.

Ryhill and Havercroft fell further behind at the foot of the table, as they lost by nine wickets against Ferrybridge C.
