NEW DRAGON IS LOOKING SHARP

NEW Doncaster Dragons signing Maea David has impressed club officials in his first training sessions as coach St John Ellis steps up the pace in preparation for the new campaign.

The Dragons agreed terms with the 27-year-old prop/second row last week and chief executive Ray Green said: "He looks the part already from what we have seen so far.

"The deal is subject to a work permit and a medical but we don't forsee any problems in those areas and he is expected to be a key member of the squad."

David is Doncaster's sixth close season signing with Ellis moving swiftly to snap up the strong running prop/second row forward as Jamie Leighton looked poised to reject a new contract and sign for Hull Kingston Rovers.

The other five new acquisitions have also been producing some eyecatching training stints in the build up to the friendly at Hunslet on November 26.

They are former Widnes stand off Paul Mansson, ex-Huddersfield prop Jamie Fielden, loose forward/hooker Brad Hepi from Featherstone, London Broncos centre/winger Kevin Crouthers, and centre/loose forward Simon Irving from Huddersfield.

Doncaster are currently training three times a week at Hatfield Main ground in Dunscroft in preparation for the opening match away to York on December 3.

* The Dragons are planning a public meeting for supporters which will be attended by players, directors and coaching staff for the week after the opening home game on December 10 and details will be announced at a later date.

Young supporters under the age of 12 will be admitted for 1 this season and the new replica shirts should be on sale in time for Christmas.

* Key player Tony Miller is set to miss the start of the season after undergoing a hernia operation but is expected to be back in action early in the New Year.

* Winning numbers in the Doncaster Dragons Daily Draw this week are, for 100 2524, 2068, 0983, 3851 and 0219. 20 winners are 0059, 0472, 0380, 1816 and 1178.
