Peace has broken out between two local rivals - for the time being.

Atif Shafiq and Jamie Robinson starred in a splendid contest at Sheffield Arena last weekend, putting on the best fight of the night after weeks of banter on social media.

Rotherham lightweight Shafiq won the eight-rounder on points after Robinson was knocked down in the first round. Shafiq took to twitter to congratulate Robinson, from Bolsover, for how quickly he bounced back from hitting the canvas. “You can imagine how buzzing I was Jamie especially after all the hype. All credit to you for recovering quick.”

The ‘Ginger Rocket’ responded: “I would have been the same, hopefully a rematch in 2016 would be nice and thanks a lot enjoy a rest now.” The idea of a second match appeals to Shafiq who then posted: “When ever you’re ready. Hopefully I’ll be back out this year.”

Meanwhile, trainer Dominic Ingle wants to build on the recent KO success of 22-year-old Sheffield super-flyweight Kyle Yousaf.

Yousaf stopped Gary Reeve in 90 seconds at the Magna Centre earlier this month, his fifth consecutive victory. Ingle said: “He turned professional quite late and did not have that many amateur fights.

“But he has trained with Kell Brook, has lots of sponsors and a good following behind him, and is making his way. He does what he is told and is a clean liver. We are trying to build his experience up and we’d have liked him to do more rounds in his last fight but he caught the kid with a shot and it was all over.

He needs a few more rounds before we step him up.”
