Ben Bailey Homes South Yokshire Senior Cricket League
Mexborough 185-7 Dearne 340-2
WHILE it is somewhat of a triumph that Mexborough fielded a side on the opening day of the season, a hefty mauling by local rivals Dearne hints at a tough season ahead for the Hampden Road side.
Mexborough were relegated through two divisions at their own request at the end of last season, following a large player exodus and deep funding problems.
But those remaining vowed to fight on and are looking for a season of consolidation down the South Yorkshire League ladder.
The campaign did not get off to the best of starts as a three–pronged Dearne stormed through to a comprehensive victory.
But Mexborough showed signs of their resolution as they refused to fully fold.
Dearne skipper Mark Chambers smacked 103 including 12 fours, while fellow opener Kyle Humphries added 98 and Jonathan Scaife topped them both with an unbeaten 106no with 15 boundaries.
The visitors reached 340-2 in 43 overs before declaring.
Mexborough stalwart Hugh Tingle opened the response with 45 with Andy Hawke adding 31 and skipper James Clark reaching 34 to help forward. They closed well short but still intact at 185-7.
Thorpe Hesley 85-8
v Rockingham 2nd XI
ROCKINGHAM Seconds were badly hit by the weather after a strong bowling performance at Thorpe Hesley.
Excellent performances from Luke Stephenson and Lee Matthew helped Rockingham pin Thorpe back to 85-8.
Stephenson claimed 3-29 with Matthew taking 3-11.
But the downpour arrived, halting the match and denying Rockingham a probable victory.
