A BRILLIANT 107–run haul from Joe Thompson gave Wath Seconds’ survival bid the shot in the arm they needed as they beat Collegiate to move two points from safety.

Wath initially ambled to 39-2 but Andy Bell and Thompson combined to add 114 runs before the former departed with 58 runs under his belt.

Thompson stayed until he had amassed 107 to help Wath to 231-8 at the close.

Robert Shaw claimed 3-32 for the Sheffield side.

Veteran Charlie Wall hit 64 and Josh Farley added 49 for Collegiate who never really looked like finding the winning score.

They did hold on at 184-9 to earn a point while Shawn Hopkins claimed the first five wickets to fall for Wath, ending on 6-30.

Elsecar 2nd XI 154 Shiregreen 239-9

ELSECAR Seconds continue to tumble down the table after promotion chasing Shiregreen inflicted a fourth successive defeat.

Opener Ilyas Mohammad struck 67 while Haslam Hayat added 30 before Mohammad Nawz came in at fourth man and stayed to the conclusion with 71no as Shiregreen posted 239-9.

Brothers Nathan and Liam Musslewhite did the damage with 3-43 and 4-61 respectively.

Skipper Adrian Meadows held Elsecar’s innings together but ultimately batted well in a losing cause.

He scored 82 and departed with his side on 133-8.

Elsecar fell at 154, short by 85 runs.

Ilyas Mohammad took 4-45 and Fida Mohammad 3-46.
