Swimming: Medal mania for South Yorkshire club

A South Yorkshire club have made a huge splash in their latest competition - clinching over 100 gold, silver and bronze medals.

Having impressed in the recent ASA North East Regional Championships, the Borough of Barnsley Swimming Club (BOBSC) took 38 of its members to the Scarborough A & B meet.

And it proved to be successfulevent as the club celebrated 23 speeding medals, 42 gold, 35 silver, 32 bronze, 99 finishes between 4th and 10th place, and 166 personal best times.

A club spokesman said: “All of the swimmers performed fantastic in the water setting a very high standard from the beginning.

“The swimmers representing the club with such high standards it was truly a pleasure to be part of the team.”

In the junior section, Georgia Clarke represented the team in the B grade while Abigail Miles, Nathan Billingham and Elizabeth Safonika competed in the A section.

And in the seniors, the club had Thomas Stather and Elliott Robinson qualifying for the B grade skins while Thomas Speed and Claire Berry took the A grade skins honours.

Berry also successfully fought through all five rounds to win the A grade.
