Doncaster Dartes have been boosted by a taste of European success as the club bids to make its mark on the annual British Gas National Swimming Championships.

Max Litchfield this month continued his impressive development by winning a team gold and individual silver at the recent European Junior Championships in Poland.

Litchfield is one of 12 Dartes youngsters in Sheffield representing Doncaster at the headline event of the junior swimming season, which started yesterday.

Caitlin Dixon, Shannon Dodson, Jessica Gillatt, Jarvis Parkinson, Alex Pollard, Joe Litchfield, Georgia Wright, Jamie Clarke, Laura Brookes, George Scatchard and Katie Pendlebury are also hoping to secure national titles at the Ponds Forge event, which runs until Sunday.

Litchfield, meanwhile, can celebrate winning a European silver in his favourite event, the 200m individual medley. He was also part of the GB 4x200 Freestyle team that won gold.

Litchfield also qualified as second fastest for the 400m Freestyle final, going on to finish fifth, one second behind silver medallist and South Yorkshire rival Matthew Johnson.

Dartes head coach Andy Wallace was also in Poznan as part of the GB coaching team.
