A swimming coach has received a prestigious award for his hard work and dedication to a swimming club.

Adwick ASC’s head coach Neil Stephenson (pictured far left) gives up to 20 hours a week on a voluntary basis and has helped the club go from strength to strength with several trophy wins as well as county and regional representation.

Stephenson, of Askern, has been volunteering with the Doncaster club for ten years having first joined as assistant coach before taking over as head coach in 2008.

And his hard work has been rewarded with the South Yorkshire Sport’s Community Shining Light Award 2014.

He said: “I am humbled by this award and it was completely unexpected as I had no idea I had been nominated.

“Although this has been awarded to me, it’s the whole club and the volunteers that help run it and deserve the credit, they do a fantastic job for this great club.”

Adwick ASC is this year celebrating its 40th anniversary. Plans are in place for a reunion to be held in September.
