Teenager Brad Robinson won silver at Hamburg’s European Sumo Championships.
DN Sumo took both Robinson and youngster Dan Barwell to Germany to compete in the under-21 -115kg class and under-18 +100kg class respectively.
Robinson, competing in his first ever European championship, quickly progressed into the semi final where he faced undefeated Hungarian Tamas Sipos.
Robinson started strong, sending the Hungarian all over to reach the final where he faced current number two in Europe Martin Borisov from Bulgaria.
In Round One Robinson impressed, nearly causing the upset of the competition but it was not meant to be as the Bulgarian fought back and claimed gold.
Barwell claimed a bye straight into round round in his tournament.
In his first match he faced an unknown Hungarian called Zolt Longe.
Barwell fought well but Longe won, meaning after just one fight the bronze was the best the Doncaster wrestler could achieve.
Barwell entered the repercharge matches hoping to win bronze and in his final fight he fought Georgian Zaza Khubuluri. Despite being within touching distance of the bronze, Zaza eventually won, leaving Barwell with a top five finish overall.
