Sheffield Sharks will be looking for their first win in the BBL Championship tonight when they host red hot Leicester Riders.

Sharks are fresh off a gritty win against Manchester Giants in the BBL Cup last week and will be looking to continue that momentum forward into the league.

Sheffield fell to an imperious Newcastle Eagles side in the season opener before following that loss with a high scoring defeat to Cheshire Phoenix.

Sharks bounced back well however, winning against Giants last week to advance to the cup quarter-finals.

Despite the win on Friday, Sharks will have a tough time getting their first points of the league season as they come up against the unbeaten Leicester. Riders have won their first four games in the league, conceding on average a mere 59 points a game.

At the heart of Riders rock solid defence is forward TrayVonn Wright. The 23-year-old has been dominant in the paint this season, averaging 15.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks a game.

Sharks will be hoping for another big game from Jerrold Brooks, the guard who made this week’s BBL All Star Five after a 17 point outing against Giants on Friday. Brooks is the league’s leading scorer as his star continues to rise in Britain, putting up 23.5 points on average in his first two games.

Forward Michael Tuck has also been impressive so far, crashing boards and getting post points to keep Sharks a threat inside. Recently signed Shark T.J. Robinson has made an immediate impact as well, earning a spot on the BBL All Star Five bench this week for his performance against Giants.

Sharks will be looking for big games from both men at the EIS Sheffield against Riders.

Sheffield’s games are starting to come thick and fast, with Sharks match against Riders being the first of four games in a nine day span.

Coach Atiba Lyons takes his men to Glasgow for their first away fixture on Sunday and he’ll be desperate to get this busy and important stretch off to a winning start.
