JAMIE McDonnell’s opponent Ivan Pozo may not have fought for a year but he will bring a menacing record to the ring on Saturday night.
The Spanish fighter is a former European champion and WBO crown contender with 32 wins from 39 bouts.
His 20 knock out victories tell the tale of a powerful fighter with a hefty left hand.
Pozo works very well behind a strong jab, looks to drop to the body on the follow up and tries to find a way through for a left hook.
His hard-hitting, high-pressure style is in stark contrast to the more technical approach of Malik Bouziane, the fighter McDonnell had been preparing to meet.
The 32-year-old will attempt to command the centre of the ring and force himself on McDonnell, persistently getting right in his face.
He does not retreat quickly under pressure and instead will look to stand his ground and cover up.
The bout at Hillsborough Leisure Centre in Sheffield will be only Pozo’s sixth fight outside his homeland and he has failed to win on the last three occasions on his travels.
