Relegation threatened Hooton Pagnell brushed aside Frickley Colliery to earn seven vital points and move closer to safety.

Hooton are still placed precariously in the Division One drop zone but their comfortable nine wicket win saw them move to within two points of third bottom Nostell St Oswald.

Frickley’s defeat also kept them looking nervously over their shoulders, just three places and five points better off than Hooton.

Pagnell won the toss and elected to bowl first at Garden’s Corner.

And the home side’s bowlers responded with an economic display, restricting Frickey to a painstaking 123-7 from their allotted 46 overs.

Opener Inderjit Singh Hayre made 45 and Lovepreet Singh added 24 as the visitors struggled for runs.

Steve Hardaker claimed 3-33 from 14 overs, while Alwyn Dyke (1-22 from 11 overs) and Matthew Harrison (1-13 from nine overs) proved equally difficult to get away.

In reply Hooton responded in a careful and considerate fashion, fully aware of the importance of victory.

Michael Grace and Dyke laid the foundations with a solid opening stand of 74.

Dyke departed for 45, but Grace (46no) carried his bat to guide his team to only their second win of the season.

Fishlake also remain in relegation danger following a 103-run defeat against Streethouse.

Streethouse claimed a maximum 10-point haul after amassing 208-8 before dismissing Fishlake for 105.

S Mason (4-45) and J Mason (41) performed well for the Doncaster side but they are now just three points better off than Hooton Pagnell.

Askern Welfare continued their Division Two promotion assault with a 26-run win over Sandal.

Josh Gillies starred with 4-40 as Sandal were dimissed for 121 in response to Askern’s 147.

Welfare sit scecond, a point behind leaders Featherstone.
