Former England star Paul Nixon has teamed up with local club Darfield CC to launch a new cricket academy for South Yorkshire youngsters.

The academy will be hosted at Darfield CC, and will give 22 school-leavers aged between 16 and 18 the chance to undergo intensive cricket coaching, whilst studying for BTEC qualifications.

The candidates will get the chance to represent the academy in midweek leagues around the country, and will be educated off the field using video analysis of their performances, as well as personalised health, nutrition and fitness programmes.

The academy is also linked with professional cricket clubs, giving the candidates the opportunity to progress.

“This is much more than a cricket academy - there is a huge emphasis on education.” Nixon said.

A seminar is being held at Darfield on May 22. For more information call 01709 913 600 or email marketing@ptcsports.co.uk.
