One minute the idea of a new netball team was floated around in the pub.

The next minute they are celebrating winning an international tournament in Spain.

That is the story behind Doncaster Rebels Netball Club - who recently took a 17-strong squad abroad for the first time and won every single game.

Now they want more young girls to join them at their new coaching academy.

Coach Natalie Buckley said: “We started out a couple of years ago as an idea in the pub. It was lead by Rona Hetherington at the time and originally we were called Rona’s Rebels.

“Through the love of the game and the friendships that have developed the team has gone from strength to strength.

“We now have over 30 players, three teams and we play in four leagues across Yorkshire.”

She added: “We’re always looking for new players and we recently set up a voluntary coaching academy for junior girls in Years 7 to 11.

“It’s not for profit and we just want get more young girls making friendships and developing skills and fitness through netball.”

Rebels’ coaching academy meet at Hall Cross Lower School every Wednesday at 4.15pm.
