STEFY Bull has praised fighters Tommy Coward and Steven Hale for their grit and determination in recovering from knockdowns to pick up victories.
Swinton fighter Coward survived a fourth round tumble to see off Gary Cooper while Conisbrough’s Hale edged past Valentin Stoychev despite hitting the deck in the second round at the Doncaster Dome on Friday night.
Bull said: “I think the lads deserve a lot of credit.
“Tommy had been doing well but he went on to have his best rounds after the knockdown.
“And Steven showed a lot of guts because the fight could easily have slipped away from him.
“We didn’t know anything about Stoychev, but Steven sussed him out.
“There’s only so much you can teach them in the gym - the rest of it is down to them.”
Coward returns to the ring in four weeks at Barnsley Metrodome for his third fight in as many months.
Bull added: “We’re looking to keep Tommy as active as possible. He showed last Friday that he can handle the trickier kids and I’m convinced he is good enough to win a British title.”
