TALKS are underway to ensure the biggest fight of Jamie McDonnell’s career is held in Doncaster.
McDonnell is set to battle former two weight world champion Hugo Cazares in a WBC World Bantamweight title eliminator this summer.
The Hatfield fighter’s camp are desperate to avoid having to travel to Cazares’ native Mexico for the bout.
The purse bid for the bout was won by the Mexicans but McDonnell’s manager Dennis Hobson is confident he can do a deal to bring the fight to the Dome.
He said: “There’s definitely negotiating to be done because I don’t think the Mexicans have a date for it.
“They know we’ll not want to go out there and they’ll be looking to make some money off that.
“This is a huge fight and a huge step up for Jamie but we’re definitely confident he’ll get through it and get the world title shot.”
McDonnell has relinquished his European bantamweight title in order to make the step up in class.
