Lisa Garbutt struck an opening day hat trick as Doncaster’s ladies got off to a winning start in the Investec Women’s Hockey League.
Garbutt’s treble, and further goals from Verity Blyth and Charlotte Tomlin, secured a 5-3 win at home to Conference North newcomers Boots on Saturday.
The Nottingham side were given a rude awakening to life at a higher level as Blyth and Garbutt found the net in the first ten minutes.
Boots halved the deficit midway through the first half from a penalty corner from Nic Just.
But Doncaster surged into a 5-1 lead as Tomlin struck and Garbutt completed her treble with goals either side of the break.
Tori Moore and Rebecca Simms reduced the deficit in the final quarter.
Doncaster travel to Wakefield Bradford on Saturday.
