Sheffield’s Danny Willett will begin his second round at the PGA Championship at Wentworth six shots behind leader Francesco Molinari after carding a 71 yesterday.

Willett birdied the 17th and 18th to finish one under par but will need to be on his best form today to close the gap on Italian Molinari who has an excellent record at Wentworth, having finished seventh, ninth and seventh the last three years.

World No 1 Rory McIlroy is tied with Willett on one under but faces a fine from the European Tour after throwing a club in frustration. Sweden’s Robert Karlsson is second on five under par.
