When it comes to making history, the McDonnell twins simply take it in their stride.

And Gavin and Jamie are out to make it a spring to remember with two huge dates.

On Saturday night, Gavin contests the vacant European super bantamweight title in Sheffield - almost five years to the day since Jamie won the same title at bantamweight.

And on May 9, Jamie will be in San Antonio, Texas, for his blockbuster world title unification bout as he puts his WBA title on the line against WBO king Tomoki Kameda.

The pair will celebrate their birthdays on Sunday and hope to do so with another belt added to their combined collection which already boasts Central Area, English, British, Commonwealth, European, WBO intercontinental, IBF and WBA championships.

But they are not finished yet.

“When I win this fight on Saturday night I’ll be in touching distance of a world title fight myself,” Gavin said.

“I’m desperate to be up there with our kid and I believe I can reach that level.

“He’s going to clean up at bantamweight, I’m sure of it and that all starts in Texas. “We want at least one of each for the collection and we’re confident that when we sit down and look back in a few years, we’ll have them all.”
