‘PRETTY Boy’ Connor Nixon knew he was putting his good looks on the line by entering professional boxing.
Without a headguard to protect his dashing features, Nixon’s chances of modelling the new Armani and Gucci ranges were always going to decline fight on fight.
However, the 19-year-old southpaw didn’t expect to have to deal with a facial injury just two fights into his professional career.
Hatfield’s Nixon is back in training ahead of his third fight, after his nose was whacked against Glasgow’s Ryan McNicol.
He managed to come through with a win but the injury had an effect on his performance and his nose has been left “a bit wonky.”
He said: “It was a clash of heads really and that’s always likely to happen when you get two southpaws.
“He was shorter than me so he connected with my nose and the blood started to pour out. This all happened before any punch landed and we were only 30 seconds into the first round and it threw me out of my stride a bit.
“I’ve come through it though and will be a better fighter because of the experience.”
Mexborough-based trainer, manager and promoter Stefy Bull is putting his faith in Nixon to win against unbeaten Slovakian opponent Ladislav Koller on his England v Europe themed bill at the Dome on June 8. Both have two wins under their belt and Nixon is pleased to be facing a lively foe.
“You could have 20 fights against guys with terrible records and not learn anything,” said Nixon.
“These sorts of fights (against unbeaten opponents) are what help develop you into a great fighter. Stefy says that I’m starting to adapt better to the pro game now. I stand and throw rather than hit and move.”
Tickets are still available for the England v Europe theme and VIP (including meal and waitress service) are priced at £55. Stalls and balcony are £35. VIP ticket holders will also be allowed into the aftershow party at Bar Toast in the town centre. For tickets call 01302 370777.
