THE National Hunt season was back in full swing at Doncaster Racecourse on Saturday with our penultimate meeting of 2012, the BETVICTOR.com Christmas Raceday.
There was plenty of action during the seven race-card, ensuring the popular festive fixture went off with a bang.
After leaping to victory in the Summit Juvenile Hurdle, North Yorkshire based John Quinn looks to have another smart prospect on his hands in the form of Kashmir Peak, following his success in the Cheltenham juvenile championship last March with Countrywide Flame.
The three-year-old came home one length ahead of Sametegal in the Grade Two contest. I’ll be keeping a watchful eye on how he fares during his next couple of runs ahead of the Triumph in March.
It was also an afternoon to remember for Andover trainer Emma Lavelle who experienced her first ever four-timer, including a double at our very own Town Moor track. 2/1 favourite Easter Meteor opened the Lavelle scoring at Doncaster in the Follow At BetVictorRacing On Twitter Handicap Chase, seeing off Midnight Sail by four and a half lengths.
Court By Surprise capped off the day after holding on by a nose in the BetVictor Non Runner Free Bet At Cheltenham Handicap Chase adding to Lavelle’s wins with Highland Lodge at Cheltenham and Court In Motion who struck at Lingfield.
And Paul Nicholls also had a busy afternoon with runners in action at both Cheltenham and Doncaster. He secured his fifth win of the day as Zarkander won the International Hurdle at Cheltenham after notching up three further wins at Prestbury Park as well as in our Healthwatch Doncaster Novices’ Chase, where Daryl Jacob rode Rocky Road to victory after taking a keen hold from the start.
This final burst of pre-Christmas action gave racegoers an afternoon to remember and we’re now gearing up for our final meeting of the year, the Blue Square Bet New Year National Hunt Meeting on Saturday, 29 December.
