DONCASTER BOWLS: Winner Frank Potts ends up loser

WESTFIELD Park’s Frank Potts still finished on the losing side (135-111) despite carding a 21-6 their Doncaster Bowls Association Over-60s League Division One clash at home to Eden Grove-Pelgers.

John Laycock (21-6), Keith Haydon (21-9) and Enoch Walker (21-9) shone for Brodsworth in their 166-100 win at Yorkshire Main B.

Derek Spence won 21-8 for Bawtry, but Brian Acornley (21-9) and Allan Birkby and Ron Strutt (both 21-8) helped secure a 140-129 Division Three victory for Bentley Colliery.

Adwick B faded after Maurice Mortlock (21-6) had given them a good start, and Mick Cook (21-7), Ann O’Reilly (21-6) and Vic Heley (21-8) combined to give Rossington B a 151-120 victory.

Dave Hodkinson (21-2) and Christine Cox (21-8) caught the eye for Mexborough, with Carol Raven’s 21-6 win coming too late to save Adwick B from a 146-126 defeat.

Carcroft finished with a flourish with wins from John Burton (21-8) and Ken Acornley (21-4) securing them a 155-124 derby win at Bentley.

John Peters (21-6) and Roy Leese (21-9) set Pilks Pensioners on their way to a 157-101 win. Last man Malcolm Tetley won 21-2 for Parklands B in their 151-128 victory over Rossington B.

Albert Dudill and Pauline Draper (21-6) and Alan Bissell and Colin Draper (21-8) were Roundwood’s best winners in their 78-55 Over-60s Doubles League Division One victory over Bawtry. Two pairs, Bob Sisman and Bob Knibbs, and Brian Line and Frank Potts, both won 21-8 for Westfield Park, but with only six players available the home side lost 58-53 against visiting Askern.

George Boothman and Reg Meeson (21-9) and Terry Mosley and Phil Rees (21-7) both won well for Yorkshire Main in their 79-50 victory over Parklands.

Carcroft beat visiting Parklands 80-60 in their Division Two clash. Archie Hughes and Joan Wright (21-8) secured a 72-70 win for Rossington B at home to Brodsworth.

Jim Stocks and Brian James (21-6) made a bright start for Bentley Colliery in their 65-58 win over Pilks Pensioners.

Peter Chatley and Terry Plant (21-9) were the only winners for Eden Grove-Peglers as Malcolm and Sue Tetley won 21-8 to help secure Parklands B a 72-58 win.

Westfield Park got a good start from Dave Rogers and Graham Garnett (21-9) in their Bufton Cup semi-final against Carcroft but their rivals won the remaining three games to claim a 72-69 victory and reach the final for the second year running.

Keith Dawson (21-8) was the best winner for Yorkshire Main in their 145-130 Hospital Cup quarter-final win over Woodlands Park B.
