DONCASTER BOWLS: No stroll in the Park for losers

MARTIN Wilson’s 21-9 win was in vain for Woodlands Park as they tasted a 192-176 Doncaster Bowls Association Saturday League Section A defeat at Bawtry.

Pauline Draper (21-9), Derek Brookes (21-3), Colin Draper (21-6), Gordon Beasley (21-3) and Andrew Baker (21-8) were all on sparkling form for Roundwood in their resounding 205-110 win over Pilks Recreation. Joey Walton (21-9) was the hero for league leaders Denaby in their narrow 186-180 win at Thorpe Marsh Bentley.

Yorkshire Main got a good start from Keith Dawson (21-9), but Mexborough then took control of the game, with John Dean winning 21-7 in their 180-157 success. Eden Grove-Peglers were beaten 172-160 by Section B hosts Armthorpe B, despite good wins from Brian Hardy (21-6) and Brendan Glynn (21-3).

Maureen Brough (21-8) and Roy Rider (21-9) were the two winners for Maltby Main as Carcroft triumphed 192-123 with individual wins from John Burton (21-9), Mark Daniels (21-4), Malc Warren (21-6) and Ryan Lysons (21-8).

Struggling Parklands put a dent in Rossington’s promotion prospects with former league secretary Elizabeth Hall winning 21-8 in their 187-167 victory. Adwick continue to dominate Section C with Geoff Bratton and Steve Crookes both winning 21-5 in their 199-145 success at Hexthorpe.

Askern pipped Adwick B 185-176.

Frank Glover (21-5) and Sam Davidson (21-6) both posted good wins for Yorkshire Main B in their victory at Parklands B. Anne Hammond (21-6), Walter Roden (21-4) and Robert Mollekin (21-4) all featured for Roundwood C in their 197-132 win over Brodsworth. Alan Marsden (21-2) and Don Borthwick (21-8) secured a 176-168 Section D win for Hexthorpe B, with Alex Smith replying 21-9 for Harvesters.

Last man Brian Clark won the match (189-175) for Carcroft B at Pilks Pensioners with a 21-7 victory. Thorne beat Bawtry B.
