Young Michael Steele has hit administrators for six as he continues to make great strides as an up-and-coming umpire.

Michael, 23, from Armthorpe, was recently selected to umpire at a Lord’s Corporate Day.

He did the Level One course with Stuart Roberts at Doncaster in the winter and passed with 98 per cent.

Steele umpired four games at Lord’s, receiving excellent feedback.

Terry Bentham, chairman of the South Yorkshire Umpires, said: “Michael and I did four games together all on the main pitch at Lord’s.

“He umpires very well indeed and I was proud of him.

“Michael was not overawed and it was a pleasure and joy to be with him and I feel sure he has a great future in the game.”
