First comes marriage, then comes a baby and then global dominance.

After becoming world champion once again, Jamie McDonnell is looking to make 2014 the perfect year by taking the first steps towards unifying the bantamweight division.

He will marry actress fiancee Hollie Coombs in Mexico in a fortnight with the couple’s first baby due a few months later.

And McDonnell hopes to have the opportunity to win another world title before the end of an unbelievable year.

He said: “I’m a two weight world champion, things are looking up. I’m getting married and having a baby.

“I’ll be back in the gym in a few weeks getting ready to defend it or hopefully unify it.

“I want to be out a couple of times before the end of the year and hopefully one of those will be a unification fight.

“I think I’m the best bantamweight in the world.

I’ve proven that twice now and I’m ready to prove it properly by winning all the belts.”

With a busy year comes bills to pay meaning the title win was even more welcome for McDonnell.

He said: “Things happen around these belts and things are going to happen for me.

“You can’t describe how much I needed the WBA belt and how much I want the rest of them.

“I’ve got to buy all the stuff for the baby, I’ve got a big extension to finish and I’ve got a wedding to pay for.

“I needed this belt to secure my future. I told our lass that I needed to win it.

“I’m absolutely over the moon that I’ve done it.”
