It was a busy weekend of basketball at All Saints Sports Centre with the best of local talent on display.

On Saturday Sheffield Hatters under 18 players hosted a tournament for Year 3 and 4 children, which also doubled as a fundraising day for the club.

Two teams from Marlcliffe School, two from Nether Green, Rotherham Hawks and a team made up of players from Catholic schools competed in matches and skills competitions.

Marlcliffe ‘A’ team came out on top with the Hawks second and Nether Green ‘A’ third. More than £300 was also raised for the Hatters.

Saturday also saw the first stage of Yorkshire trials for the best U11 and U13 boys and girls in our region.

Players were considered for selection for representative squads which will play contemporaries from around the country this summer.

On Sunday All Saints hosted the monthly Central Venue League competition.

The Hatters, Sheffield Saints, Sheffield Sharks, the Hawks, Barnsley Leaders, Darfield Dunkers and Doncaster Danum clubs were all represented at ages 5-12.

The action was fast and frenetic with perhaps the most excitement coming on the ‘rookie’ court where the Hawks and Dunkers played out four tight matches.
