Defeat has only increased the career prospects of Barnsley light welter Ben Wager, says his Sheffield trainer Glyn Rhodes.

Wager, 24, lost a six round points decision to Thomas Stalker in a televised show in Manchester last weekend.

“I thought it could have been a draw” said Rhodes.

“Ben certainly boxed really well and the scoring (56-59) was miles off.

“But his performance has done himself no harm - when you win the phone doesn’t always go for the next fight. I bet opportunities will open up for him now.”

n Sheffield’s Commonwealth champion Kid Galahad (Barry Awad) expects to fight a north American on his Ponds Forge bill on September 20th.

Details will be announced tomorrow.
