Athletic star back on top

THURNSCOE Olympic pole vault hopeful Luke Cutts was back on the top of the podium last weekend as he sealed a first placed finish for England at the Loughborough International, the first major fixture of the 2011 McCain Challenge Series.

Cutts cleared 5.20m to seal the win.

Meanwhile, his Dearne ALC clubmates enjoyed a successful weekend in the field at the National Young Athletes Premier League fixture in York.

The club showed their pole vaulting prowess with a string of first place finishes.

Nicolas Cole won the Under 17s cateegory over 4.20m while Adam Hague and Marcus Salt were triumphant in the Under 15s A and B strings respectively, clearing 3.20m and 3m.

Vicky Price and Caitling Baker also earned pole vautl first places in the women’s categories by besting 2.50m and 2.40m respectively.

Dearne throw specialist Steven Bowkett swept the board with firsts in the hammer, shot putt and javelin.

Bowkett threw 37.60m in the hammer, 8.0m in the shot and 20m in the javelin.
