Another defeat for Mexborough but battling spirit revealed

MEXBOROUGH continued to show their battling spirit despite defeat at Worsbrough.

John Chantry set a blistering early pace with 43 of the opening pair’s 55 runs while partner Raiq Hussain stayed longer to reach 36.

The innings was boosted late on by Erik Croese’s 59 as Mexborough posted 206-5.

Worsbrough were up for the challenge and skipper Dave Smith set a blistering pace with 52 while Alan Littlewood added 51.

The two were topped by a superb innings from Ankur Sondhi whose unbeaten 84 helped his side to 210-2.

Dearne 157-9 Thorncliffe 2nd XI 74

DEARNE duo Andy Whaley and Jonathan Scaife mopped up the opposition to ensure their side maintained their 100 per cent record this season.

It was a day for the bowlers as Dearne struggled to find their feet during their time in the centre.

Both openers departed with the score on 45 and runs proved hard to come by with Kyle Humphries’ 23 the top score.

Wickets fell regularly to leave the score at 119-9 before Kevin Roe and Callum Millward joined forces for 15 overs to help Dearne post 157-9.

Jitesh Thammisetti was excellent with a return of 6 for 41 for Thorncliffe who never looked like making the target.

Whaley and Roe took six early wickets to leave Thorncliffe reeling on just 35 before Scaife mopped up the final three to see Thorncliffe dismissed for 74.

Whaley finished with 4-21 and Scaife 3-18.

Coal Aston 2nd XI 322-5

Rockingham 2nd XI 177-9

ROCKINGHAM Seconds managed to save face despite being blasted by big scoring Coal Aston.

A third wicket stand of 197 from Simon Mintoft and Brett Pickford laid the groundwork for Coal Aston’s 322-5.

Mintoft led the way with 152 and Pickford added 120.

Shell shocked Rockingham found runs more difficult to get and it was left to stumper Callum Johnson to restore respectability with a hard hitting 79.
