The Scot has held individual face-to-face talks with his squad this week - making it clear exactly who he wants to stay and who he wants to go.

"A lot's been done this week," said Ferguson at Thursday's final pre-match press conference of the season.

"Generally the players that are not going to be in my plans already know.

"Off the top of my head there's about eight or nine.

"There's going to be change in the football club and everything will become clearer after Sunday and after discussions with the board early next week.

"The relegation hasn't really changed my mind on many things and we've just got to make sure now we prepare for next season."

Ferguson confirmed that Rovers are not in a position to pay up the contracts of those players who are not in his plans - and he accepts that they might still be on the club's books when pre-season starts in late June.

"We're not discussing that," he said, when asked about paying up contracts.

"I've given them a professional opinion as the manager. It's something they may agree or disagree with, it doesn't really bother me. It's an opinion they have to respect, which they have done.

"If they're back [for pre-season], they're back, we'll have to deal with that accordingly. But clearly we'd like to think that they understand the situation and they can go on and further their careers elsewhere.

"You've got the situation where that might not be the case but I have to deal with that accordingly. The most important thing is that I've made my decisions."
