DONCASTER Knights go into battle against former top flight club Bristol at Castle Park tonight (7.45) looking to restore their pride following a sorry show in their Championship opener against Plymouth at Brickfields.

“We are better than we played at Plymouth and we know we are,” said director of rugby, Brett Davey. “It’s just a shame it happened on the first day of the season when you are looking to get off to a winning start.

“The club have gone out on a bit of a limb by switching to Friday night rugby this season and we know that we’ve got to put in some pretty solid performances and try and entertain the crowd as much as we possibly can.

“We know we’ve got a tough start against Bristol because they finished top of the league last year, only to miss out on promotion in the play-offs.

“Unlike ourselves, they’ve kept the majority of last year’s squad. They’ve lost one or two players but they’ve also brought some quality players in.

“We are hoping to make Castle Park a bit of a fortress this season. They did the double over us last season and they also beat us in the play-offs, but I definitely think that we can beat them tonight. There will be a few changes and the onus will be on the players

“I genuinely hope that there is a good crowd and that everyone gets behind us and that the players really perform. That’s all I’m looking for. If we get a decent crowd and we perform like we can, then that will be enough for me.

Full-back Michael Keating’s shoulder injury sees Dougie Flockhart switch from the wing with Tyson Lewis coming in on the other flank.

Will Simpson also gets his first Championship start at inside centre along with Louis Silver at scrum-half. Phil Hoy and Adam Kettle come in at lock and No 8 respectively.
