COPP A LOAD OF THIS: James to return to Rovers

FIRING BACK: James Coppinger will return to Rovers when his loan deal at Nottingham Forest expires.

FIRING BACK: James Coppinger will return to Rovers when his loan deal at Nottingham Forest expires.

JAMES Coppinger will play a major role in Doncaster Rovers’ push for promotion after his loan spell at Nottingham Forest expires next week.

It was expected that Rovers would look to offload their highest paid and longest serving player when the January transfer window opened.

But, impressed by the progress of Dean Saunders’ side so far, the Rovers board have relaxed restrictions on squad finances which will allow Coppinger to return to the fold for the run in.

Saunders met with the club’s major shareholders yesterday to discuss plans for January and was backed to maintain the strong form from the first half of the season.

Coppinger’s return will not restrict any other business Saunders was expecting to do during the January window, including a potential permanent deal for Iain Hume.

Coppinger has made just two starts since joining Nottingham Forest on loan on the last day of the summer transfer window.
