Luke Cutts is set to make his 2014 Commonwealth Games bow today as the Pole Vault Finals get underway, writes James Marshall.
Thurnscoe-born Cutts (pictured), who broke the British indoor record in January, will be going for gold this evening in Glasgow after an impressive showing in recent competitions.
With the Commonwealth Pole Vault event now consisting of a final round only with no preliminary rounds, the Dearne Athletics Club star has been able to complete his preparations locally, before making yesterday’s trip north of the boarder.
The Games will see the 26-year-old go up against his Stoke-based rival Steve Lewis, and after posting a seasons-best score two weeks ago at Sainsbury’s London Anniversary Games, Cutts believes an English clean sweep of the medals is achievable.
The Men’s Pole Vault final takes place at Hampden Park, 6pm.
Cutts won our South Yorkshire Times Sports Personality of the year at the 2014 Doncaster Sports Awards.
