HAVING re-grouped after a fortnight’s rest following four games in ten days, Doncaster Knights go back into battle at Castle Park tonight (7.45) in the first of six Promotion Play-Off games against favourites Bristol.
“We’ve definitely benefited because we’ve been able to give the players a bit of a break and this week has just been about profiling Bristol and trying to get our game back on track but it’s difficult when you have players with niggles,” said Knights’ boss Brett Davey.
“Even though we got beat at Bristol in our last league game of the season, I was quite pleased by the way we played We showed an awful lot of character to stay in the game. Obviously Bristol are a good side and ended up top of the league.
“But, on any given day, anything can happen over 80 minutes and we are looking forward to the game.
“We’ve got every confidence. We are at home and want to win our home games in the play-offs; you put yourselves behind an eight ball if you don’t.
“They’ve got three points head start on us and rightly so because they finished top of the league and should be rewarded for that.
“It’s for us, and the two other teams in our group, to challenge them in six play-off games. It only takes one big performance from the players to give them confidence and anything can happen.
“There have been times this season when we’ve played some incredible rugby and if we can reproduce that form on a regular basis in the play-offs we are more than a match for anybody.”
