DONCASTER Knights could hardly have had tougher opponents than Cornish Pirates as they strive to avoid a third consecutive home defeat in tomorrow’s Championship clash at Castle Park.

Not only are last season’s beaten play-off finalists looking to go one better this time around, but Knights have never beaten them at home.

“You can look at it two ways,” said Knights’ Scottish winger Dougie Flockhart. “You could expect them to be confident going into the game given their record or you could say that we are due to beat them.

“Obviously you always want to perform well at home, and we don’t want suffer a third successive defeat, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. But just as we don’t think that we are world-beaters if we win four games on the trot we don’t look at losing two games at home as being the end of the world.”

Third-placed Pirates will be seeking to complete the double after beating Brett Davey’s men, who had a late try disallowed, 39-32 at home in early September.

“Even though we did end up getting beat there are not many sides in this division who could have run Pirates so close after turning around 36-11 down,” he argued.

“Our second half showing will give us confidence but we know that we’ll have to be play well to beat them. The same applies to any of the top sides.

“The Championship has improved a lot over the last few years and unless you are on your game you risk being beat by any team in the league.”

Tomorrow’s game is the first fixture in the second half of the season and Flockhart, believes Knights should be higher than eighth.

“I think that we are a top-four side so we are pretty disappointed,” he said. “But at the end of the day we’ve played the games and we are where we deserve to be.”
