Injuries easing for Sheffield Eagles

Sheffield Eagles are set to welcome Cory Aston back for today’s encounter with Whitehaven at Castle Park (2pm).

Aston, son of Director of Rugby Mark, missed the victory over Batley last week with a neck problem, but is in line for a return to the 17 for the visit of the Cumbrians, along with Pat Walker who has recovered from a broken toe. Prop Tony Tonks will be given as late as possible to prove his fitness after suffering from a groin problem which also kept him out against Batley, but he is Aston’s only injury concern as his side prepare for their third ‘home’ venue of the season.

“Cory and Pat Walker are fit, there’s a doubt over Tony Tonks” Aston said. “We have almost a fully fit compliment of players to choose from, which is vital coming into this next period of games.”

Whitehaven arrive at Castle Park having ended a run of four straight defeats with a 28-12 success over Hunslet. They have re-shaped their squad with the signings of French duo Jordan Sigismeau and Louis Jouffret.

This week they also added utility man Chris Taylor who has penned a one month loan deal from Halifax.

“They are recruiting to try and get themselves out of the predicament that they are in, so they will be different and it will be tough,” Aston noted.

“They have got quality players like Dave Allen, who I know well from Ireland, they’ve re-signed Dion Aiye this week, so they have a good group of players there.

“They have young players who are quick, they have real pace in their side now. We need to make sure our house is in order, we have to prepare correctly, we don’t underestimate them and we play to our highest level.

“We need to make sure we start a little better than we have over the last couple of weeks, and if we can we will take plenty of confidence from it.”

The Eagles’ chief also confirmed that he has allowed young prop Jack Blagbrough join Championship One side York City Knights on a one month loan deal. The 21-year-old has featured three times for the Eagles this season.
