Howzat for a partnership!

FORMER Rotherham United boss Ronnie Moore will stand beside the man who now occupies his old position to lead out a special Millers All Star XI onto the cricket field, in the name of charity.

Moore will team up with his former assistant John Breckin and current Millers boss Mark Robins to take on Upper Haugh Cricket Club in a special charity match on July 5 to raise money for Rotherham Hospice.

Also lining up for Rotherham will be former keeper Billy Mercer, Ian Breckin, Nick Daws, Richard Finney and former Sheffield United stopper Simon Tracey.

The match has been organised by Daniel Leeming in memory of his father Anthony, who died of cancer in February last year.

Mr Leeming spent his last few days in the hospice before he passed away and Daniel is extremely grateful for the help his family received. Since last year Daniel – who has played for Upper Haugh – has raised more than 1,000 as a thanks to the staff at the hospice.

Returning to the Haugh for the day will be former player, now Notts County midfielder Matthew Hamshaw who played for the club until signing professional forms with Sheffield Wednesday. Rotherham referee Howard Webb will handle the scores alongside local veteran football commentator Gerry Somerton, while Kilnhurst-based ABS are sponsoring the event.

Beers, wines and soft drinks will be sold from a specially erected marquee. Of course, no Millers event would be complete without Pukka Pies – and Eric Twigg Floors have kindly donated some for the day while a barbecue will also be held alongside fairground rides, a bouncy castle and raffles.

Entry is 2 on the day while under-16s get in for free. The July 5 event starts at 2pm at Upper Haugh Cricket Club on Wentworth Road in Rawmarsh.
