Trainer David aims for a flying start at Doncaster - VIDEO

Waiting for Video...

TRAINER David O’Meara could make racing history on Saturday.

The former jockey has two horses entered for the William Hill Lincoln, the which opens the Flat Season, at Doncaster.

One of them is Penitent which won the race in 2010 under trainer William Haggas but is now under North Yorkshire handler O’Meara.

There have only been two dual Lincoln winners (1906/7 and 1957/8)- but that’s not been repeated since the race came to Doncaster in 1965. O’Meara also has Smarty Socks entered- and is reluctant to choose between them.

He said: “Penitent’s been going fine, ideally he wants just a little bit of cut in the ground, but he’s been there and he’s done it. Smarty is better on fast ground, the faster the better. Smarty is the highest he’s ever been, he improved last year and now has to step up again.”
