DONCASTER RACECOURSE: 60,000 St Leger bonanza

.

.

SEPTEMBER is here and for the team at Doncaster Racecourse, that means one thing – the four-day St Leger Festival.

The Ladbrokes sponsored festival is one of the most hotly anticipated meetings in our racing calendar, with more than 60,000 people set to take their place at our Town Moor course across the four days of the meeting.

And it seems that the festival fever is sweeping the area – Bawtry’s historic Crown Hotel became the Triple Crown Hotel earlier this week as excitement builds for the biggest raceday of the meeting, the Ladbrokes St Leger Day on Saturday, September 15 - a reference to the rare feat of winning the 2000 Guineas, Epsom Derby and the Leger. Last achieved by Nijinsky in 1970, Camelot has the chance this year to emulate that achievement.

With Camelot, one of the rising stars of the racing world headlining, our St Leger Day is set to be a bigger draw than ever before.  Tickets have been booked by racegoers from as far afield as America and Canada – proof of the massive appeal that this meeting has.

With the long range forecast looking good for the occasion, with weather this week giving us a pleasant start to September, we will be expecting a huge crowd to make their way to Doncaster Racecourse to enjoy great racing in – hopefully – good conditions.

The Ladbrokes St Leger Day is the culmination of a festival that genuinely will offer something for everyone.  Kicking off on Wednesday, September 12 with our Welcome to Yorkshire Raceday, we will first play host to legendary jockeys for our Leger Legends race, contended by some of the racing world’s biggest names including Richard Hills, Mick Kinane and Julie Krone. The raceday will raise much-needed funds for the Injured Jockeys Fund and The House That Jack Built.

The second day is all about the glamour, as Yorkshire’s females make their way to Town Moor for Ladies Day, before the Doncaster Cup Day gets underway on Friday, September 14.  Saturday’s showcase will close off the festival.

For more information about the Ladbrokes St Leger Festival at Doncaster Racecourse, or to buy tickets, go to www.doncaster-racecourse.co.uk or call our box office on 01302 511 918. Tickets are still available but pre-booking is advised given the huge interest in the meeting.
