Mexborough Athletic Ladies’ record of both scoring and conceding in every game this season continued, writes Julian Barker.

But while they took their ‘goals for’ tally to 11 in three games when they visited Sheffield Wednesday Development, the nine conceded took the ‘goals against’ section in the same spell to 19.

Tasha Carlton bagged a brace as Lauren Camm also netted for Mexborough with the interval score of 4-3 hinting at a closer outcome.

Wednesday, who won 4-2 when the teams met last month, moved two points clear of title rivals Sheffield Rangers at the top of County League Division Two following their 9-3 success.

It was a similar story in the North East League Southern Division where bottom club Dearne & District were just 1-0 down at home to top of the table Westella & Willerby at half time.

However, come the final whistle, Dearne had suffered their biggest margin defeat of the season - losing 8-0.

This coming Sunday’s action is focused on the second round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA Women’s Challenge Cup sponsored by Sheffield Trophy Centre. Mexborough host Socrates whom they have already beaten (2-1) in the League.

Rotherham United Development visit Hemsworth (previously 4-2 to Rotherham and a 3-3 draw), while Dearne visit AFC Unity.

Rotherham are exempt until the third round and at the time of writing did not have a fixture scheduled in the FAWPL.
