A DOUBLE hat-trick from Josh Willerton helped Epworth Colts on their way to a comfortable 22-2 win over Barton United Rhinos.

The under nines duo had previously met in September with the Colts running out 8-0 victors at home in the Caparo League.

On their travels, Epworth were in confident mood and dominated the first half with Bradley Barnes opening the scoring after a defensive error in the penalty area was pounced on.

Team-mate Jack Cook doubled the visitor’s lead when he rounded the keeper.

Cook could have marked his brace after he attempted a long range effort to catch the keeper off his line.

Cook did find his second when he connected with a pass from Barnes, beating his marker and chipping the keeper.

Barnes and Willerton combined throughout the encounter giving the Rhinos a tough time defensively as the pairing had a hand in the next four goals with Barnes collecting his hat-trick.

Barnes then set-up James Kilty-Stapleton for his first.

The away side’s keeper Louis Turley was briefly called into action just before the half time whistle when he charged down a Barton attack to keep the score at 8-0.

Barton started the second half brightly and were unlucky not be be awarded a penalty after their striker was brought down in the box.

Midfielder Yarred Allen then saw his shot handled in the area with Willerton dispatching the spot-kick.

Cook soon provided the goal-hungry Willerton for his fourth of the game and Epworth countered from a Barton corner to see Barnes net again for the Colts.

Willerton and Barnes combined again with the latter pouncing on his team-mate’s rebounded strike for his fifth and a 12-0 scoreline.

Colts made it 13 when Willerton’s pass to Oliver Kirwan saw him cut back on to his left foot and drive a shot past the keeper. Kirwan then doubled his lead straight from the kick-off after good work from Kilty-Stapleton.

Barton persisted despite the scoreline and their pressure paid off when Epworth’s defence were finally beaten and their midfielder slotted home.

However, the Colts were only briefly thrown off their stride as the fast feet of Kirwan saw him complete his hat-trick.

Allen soon got on the scoresheet as Kilty-Stapleton’s effort struck a defender and fell into his path to finish.

The goalscorer then burst down the right, beating two players before laying it off to Kilty-Stapleton who struck another into the roof of the net.

Kilty-Stapleton turned provider for Allen’s second as his shot cannoned back off the post and hit the keeper to nestle into the net.

Barton had a stinging effort saved before Willerton added another to his impressive tally through a long range strike.

Kilty-Stapleton soon had his hat-trick after good play from Allen and Willerton poked home a rebounded Kirwan effort for his sixth.

A beaten but determined Barton scored their second but Epworth’s Kilty-Stapleton had the final say netting his fourth and finishing off a 22-2 victory to the Colts.

Jack Cook received the man of the match award.
