PARKGATE could assume leadership of the Premier Division if they triumph in this weekend’s top of the table clash at Green Lane.
The Steelmen host current leaders Bridlington Town who have just a single point advantage.
Doug Shelley’s side moved second in the table following an unconvincing win 2-1 at Pickering Town.
Matthew Griffin cleared a weak Tom Adams effort off the line as the hosts enjoyed the early pressure.
But it was Parkgate who took the lead from the spot on 14 minutes after Daniel Cardwell was brought down. Chris Wood stepped up and drilled home.
Pickering levelled matters on 27 minutes after James Jenkinson mis-timed a punch from a corner allowing Lee Pallender to head into the top corner unchallenged.
There were few chances after the break and it was not until the 74th minute when either side truly threatened.
Substitute Nathan Forbes-Swindells drilled a 30 yard free kick just wide while Ashley Worsfold hit the post from a corner.
But Worsfold made no mistake a minute later as he reacted first when a Forbes-Swindells effort crashed back off the upright.
Parkgate held onto their advantage well and refused to allow Pickering time on the ball to get back into the game.
They could very easily have widened their advantage but for excellent work from Pickering keeper Chris Barratt.
