Players, staff and supporters of Doncaster Rovers Belles came together to celebrate their end of season awards.

Hours after suffering the heartbreak of a last-gasp defeat against Bristol, scores of people descended on to Balby Carr School to recognise the Belles’ stand-out performers in this year’s FAWSL.

Belles skipper Leandra Little collected the honour of Players’ Player.

The former Lincoln Ladies centre back fended off runners-up Lyndsey Cunningham and Sue Smith in the race for the prestigious accolade following her impressive performances in defence and up front.

Versatile defender Cunningham received the Manager’s Player of the Year. The former Nottingham Forest defender has been a solid force at the back despite a trying campaign for the club.

Teenager Ashleigh Mills scooped the Young Player award having burst onto the scene this season. The 17-year-old has provided more than ample cover in both defence and midfield for John Buckley’s outfit.

Fans’ Player went to powerhouse forward Millie Bright. The number 10, who has committed her future to the Belles until November next year, has continued to put her body on the line for the club.

A Special Thanks award was handed to the ‘Belles Noisy Fans’ who have travelled across the country in support and a ‘Performance of the Season’ gong went to vice chairman Alan Smart.

Hours before the awards evening, the Belles were cruelly denied three points against title-chasing Bristol Academy having gone into a 3-0 lead with goals from Jess Sigsworth, Bright and Little.

However, a second half hat trick from Spanish forward Natalia and an Anne-Marie Heatherson goal dealt the cruelest of blows.
