Shepherd leads by example

Parkgate 2 Lincoln Moorlands Rail 1

Captain Adam Shepherd was the hero for Parkgate with a last-minute winner against plucky strugglers Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

In soggy conditions at Parkgate’s Roundwood ground, the away side upset the odds and took the lead when Patrick Siba burst onto a through ball and shook off a Parkgate challenge to finish tidily past Andrew Sneath.

Siba could have doubled his tally just moments later, but blazed over from close range.

Parkgate began the second half well, and were soon rewarded when Lee Hill drew them level six minutes into the second half.

Sam Smith flicked on Ashley Jackson’s cross, and Hill struck home from 12 yards out.

Two minutes later, the away side were rocked again when they were reduced to ten men.

Siba became involved in a heated exchange with his team-mate Nick Labbate, and referee Colin Whittaker sent the forward off.

Parkgate then had a man sent off themselves, when Andrew Dawson picked up two yellow cards in the space of four minutes.

But the loss didn’t put them off, and they snatched all three points in the dying minutes of the game when Shepherd fired home past goalkeeper Craig Turner, keeping the Steelmen’s hopes of a top six finish alive.
