Gary Rowett, the Burton Albion manager, has expressed his delight at resigning Callum McFadzean on loan, writes James Shield.

McFadzean, who has made 21 appearances for Sheffield United, will spend the next six months at the Pirelli Stadium after Nigel Clough granted permission for him to leave Bramall Lane.

McFadzean helped Albion reach last season’s League Two play-off final during his first spell in Staffordshire and Rowett said: “Callum did well for us last season and we’re pleased to bring him back.

“He showed good promise in his time with us last season and with a full pre-season under his belt we think he’ll be a good addition down the left hand side.”

McFadzean could find himself competing against his parent club when United visit Albion for a warm-up fixture on July 19.

Clough, whose side also face Northampton, Huddersfield, Fenerbahce and York City before next month’s League One curtainraiser with Bristol City, spent 10 years in charge of the 2009 Football Conference champions before joining Derby County.
