Nigel Adkins has been nominated for League One’s August Manager of the Month award.
Organisers officially unveiled the shortlist, which also contains representatives from Gillingham, Walsall and Burton Albion, this morning following last night’s round of Johnstone’s Paint Trophy first round ties.
United climbed to second in the table after beating Swindon Town four days ago and a spokesperson for sponsors Sky Bet said: “Nigel shrugged off an opening day 4-0 defeat at Gillingham to lead his new team to four straight wins thereafter – all by a two-goal margin. His unique brand of positivity has enthused players and supporters alike at Bramall Lane.”
The judging panel, which includes George Burley, Don Goodman, Andy Williamson of the Football league and Olaf Dixon from the League Managers’ Association, will announce whether Adkins, Justin Edinburgh, Dean Smith or Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink have won the award on Friday.
United beat Hartlepool 4-3 on penalties at Victoria Park to reach the second phase of the JP Trophy.
